Hi my name is Soph and I am grateful that you are here many many thanks for your time. My biomass to charcoal journey started a few years ago when I purchased a small 1750’s cottage with my wife Mihaela which has no gas heating and instead uses oil and a multi fuel stove to generate heat. I found that wood and coal is very expensive, awkward to store, transporting is costly and handling is dirty as they absorb moisture, coal stains and due to poor packaging and the prices from a few years ago for wood no longer exist today and as time passed I found we needed to learn of ethical ways to recycle to save a penny to heat our home and keep out the cold.
I began buy purchasing a shredder and small compression equipment to make my own ecoblocks from biomass like woodchip and sawdust. I then looked deeper and found equipment that could take the manual labour out of the process and create more in bulk. It was at this time that I began to speak with manufacturers of various products that I realised had a byproduct that was causing them bottleneck problems due to storage space, transport costs, labour costs and time to dispose of this bypoduct which in my eyes is a type of biomass that can be utilised to be transferred into energy or fuel. When my wife and I married in 2019 my mother gifted me a portion of land in which we have our own olives and analysis shows makes one of the healthiest super extra virgin olive oils tested in Cyprus. Analysis showed that it was indeed super and I am confident and hopeful that with investment and care we can press the pulp to extract a superior grade of olive oil and to ensure we waste nothing turn the pulp into premium charcoal. The pip from the olive can even be crushed and turned into fuel as well creating no waste and helping the environment. Over time, we learned the importance of ethical recycling methods to save money, heat our home efficiently, and keep out the cold. This is me and mum in front of our olive grove in Cyprus xo
